Butler Tobin Celebrates One Year Anniversary
Butler Tobin LLC has turned one year old! Thanks to our clients, co-counsel, referring counsel, and friends, the first year has been lots of fun and a big success.
Our firm started as a two-man shop, with Jeb and Darren handling everything from court appearances to paperclip acquisition. The firm has since grown. After about a month, Jeb and Darren added Kate Dondero, who serves as Butler Tobin’s Firm Administrator. In January of this year, attorney Mike Rafi joined the firm after beginning his career with Troutman Sanders and Law & Moran.
During our first year, the firm played a major role in Georgia’s record-setting $150 million wrongful death verdict and has resolved numerous other cases to the satisfaction of our clients.
Attorneys from Butler Tobin have been named YLD’s “Young Litigator of the Year,” listed as “On the Rise” among the Daily Report’s “40 Under 40,” earned SuperLawyers “Rising Star” status, and been listed among Georgia Trend’s “Legal Elite.” Our attorneys have been featured on major news outlets including the Wall Street Journal, CBS, Fox News, Al-Jazeera America, WSB-TV, and NBC News.
We remain involved in the legal and local communities. Members of our firm have served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Auto Safety, as Chairman of AIEG’s Young Lawyers Committee, on the CLE Board of Trustees for the Atlanta Bar Association, and with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Association. In connection with the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, our lawyers serve on the LEAD Executive Committee, NLD Executive Committee, PAC Board, Verdict Board, Trucking Subcommittee, and Insurance Subcommittee. Our people are also proudly involved in The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, the Marcus Jewish Community Association, and Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.
Our people have grown as individuals over the first year:
Jeb successfully convinced his wonderful fiancée, Anne Wyrsch, to wear the engagement ring he gave her. The couple has not yet set a date for the wedding, but Jeb has reminded Anne that her acceptance of the ring consummated a binding contract under Georgia law. Field v. Massey, 232 Ga. App. 524, 526-27 (1998). Jeb continues to speak about trial tactics at various seminars and is pushing several cases that he looks forward to trying over the next twelve months.
Darren and his wife Lana have brought a second healthy baby boy into the world named Jonathan B. Tobin. Darren is quite proud although Lana insists that she did most of the work. Darren continues his excellent work in a number of practice areas, including commercial motor vehicles, where he continues to add to his encyclopedic knowledge of automotive insurance law.
Mike got engaged to his wonderful fiancée, Laura Mikle. He also increased the pressure on Jeb by closing on the purchase of a home, which Jeb has not done yet. (So thanks for that, Mike.) Mike has become the driving force behind the firm’s expanding negligent security practice, where his exemplary work is attracting notice.
Kate has continued the trend toward real estate acquisition by getting a home under contract where she and her boyfriend Bryan Heery will live with their dogs, George and Sophie, who are excited about the new backyard. Thanks to Kate, the firm’s doors open on time each day and remain an organized, effecive law firm.
The success of the first year has been great, and we are excited to build on that success in our second year. With the continued support of our clients, co-counsel, referring counsel, and friends, we will get better and better.
